Welcome to the HK Cannabis Law Blog!

Updated: Jan 24, 2020

Welcome to the HK Cannabis Law Blog! Huguenin Kahn LLP is proud to formally announce the launch of its cannabis practice, doing business as HK Cannabis Law (“HKCL”). Although Huguenin Kahn has been assisting its existing clients in the cannabis industry for nearly two years, the firm is excited to put the experience gained representing those clients to work for others in the cannabis space.

HKCL has an extensive working knowledge of the regulations governing cannabis businesses, understands the burden such regulations impose, and will deftly help cannabis businesses of all kinds navigate the regulatory landscape. Regulatory compliance, though burdensome, is ultimately crucial to a cannabis company’s bottom line—if you cannot operate, you are not generating revenue or producing profit. HKCL’s dedicated team of cannabis practitioners will ensure that cannabis clients obtain and maintain all necessary licenses and that they are and stay compliant with all applicable laws so that they can focus on running their businesses.

In addition to being well-versed in the regulatory side of the cannabis business, HKCL has considerable experience in other general business matters. HKCL’s lawyers can help with business formation, contract drafting and negotiation, real estate transactions, land use, and law enforcement defense. HKCL’s experience in these fields makes the firm uniquely positioned to assist clients in the cannabis industry at nearly every stage of their business.

It is no secret that the industry, particularly the regulatory landscape, is constantly changing. As part of HKCL’s efforts to educate and inform cannabis businesses in the industry on the ins and outs of the regulatory landscape, and as part of our ongoing commitment to staying abreast of current developments, HKCL will be posting regularly to this blog on various topics related to the cannabis industry. For example, one ongoing series will be a weekly newsletter with the latest updates from news and industry sources across the state, country, and globe. Another series will describe, step-by-step, the process of obtaining each of the four different kinds of cannabis licenses currently available in California. Other posts will address other legal issues related various aspects of the cannabis business.

The people of California voted to legalize cannabis, but the legislature did not make the business easy. HKCL hopes that the posts that follow will be informative and ultimately valuable to your bottom line. Stay tuned!
