In today’s HK Cannabis Law Newsletter, we present articles and information regarding: Huguenin Kahn LLP’s very own associate attorney Emily Clark authored an article on how 2021 may be the year of cannabis decriminalization at the Federal level; California cannabis workers received COVID-19 vaccine priority; the Biden administration filed a brief supporting IRS investigations of state-legal cannabis businesses; and a California State Senator introduced a bill to give local jurisdictions access to resources to oversee cannabis operations.

Given the change in administrations, the national trend towards legalization, and a Democratic majority in congress, it looks like 2021 may be the year that the Federal government legalizes cannabis.   • The California Department of Public Health recently issued a notice that certain cannabis related workers will be included in California’s vaccine distribution plan.

  • The US Department of Justice filed a brief with the United States Supreme Court supporting IRS investigations into state-legal cannabis businesses, as reported by Marijuana Business Daily.

  • California State Senator Nancy Skinner introduced S.B. 398, claiming that it would allow local jurisdictions to access resources to help reduce the illicit cannabis market.
