Cannabis Law Newsletter by HK Cannabis Law – February 18, 2022

In today’s HK Cannabis Law Newsletter, we present articles regarding a new cannabis application appeals process in Grass Valley, how Long Beach created a thriving legal cannabis market, enforcement numbers from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife, and more!

  • Grass Valley is establishing a process for appealing applications for cannabis licenses that were previously denied. More on the appeals process here.

  • In what is hopefully a harbinger of future improvements when it comes to banking for cannabis businesses, Safe Harbor Financial, one of (if not the) preeminent provider of banking services for cannabis businesses, will soon, by way of a merger, be trading on the NASDAQ.

  • Los Angeles County is moving forward with development of a commercial cannabis licensing system for unincorporated areas within its jurisdiction.

  • While the legal cannabis market in California as a whole is on the verge of collapse, the legal market in Long Beach is thriving. In 2019 and 2020, Long Beach lowered taxes and increased retailer hours. The result? A two-fold increase in the number of cannabis jobs and increased tax revenues.

  • The California Department of Fish and Wildlife released its enforcement numbers for 2021.
